MCGILL/MCHALE TRIO
Anthony McGill
Demarre McGill
Michael McHale
The McGill/McHale Trio was founded in September 2014 when brothers Demarre McGill and Anthony
McGill were featured in a residency at Bowling Green State University. It was Irish pianist Michael
McHale's first performance with the McGill brothers and they have continued not only to perform
together since then but also to commission new works to add to their repertoire.
In April of 2016 the McGill/McHale Trio was featured in a live broadcast on WQXR Radio hosted by
Terrance McKnight and in the 2016-17 season their first tour included performances in New York,
Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., as well as the Baltimore area. This was followed by their highly
successful recording, "Portraits," with Chicago based Cedille Records as well as another successful US
tour in March of 2020 that ended just before the pandemic.
The McGill/McHale Trio members are dedicated to education as well as serving underrepresented
youth. Anthony is on the faculties of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School and is Artistic Director
of Juilliard's Music Advancement Program (MAP). Demarre is an Associate Professor at the Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music and is an Artist-Faculty member of the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Michael is a founding member of the Wigmore Soloists and is a Lecturer in Piano at Ireland's Munster
Technological University Cork School of Music.
Anthony McGill serves as Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, Demarre McGill is Principal
Flute of the Seattle Symphony, and pianist Michael McHale, like the McGill brothers, has a busy
international career as a concert soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician.
